Why Cayman Islands?

Marriage License Requirements

There are no residency requirements to get married in the Cayman Islands; you can get married the day you arrive if you want to. There are no blood tests required either. However, you do have to get a non-resident marriage license and you have to be married by a Cayman Island marriage officer. The cost for the license is $200 American, or $160 in Cayman dollars. While this is not a high cost by itself, it is more expensive than most states to get a marriage license there.

One thing you may not be aware of is that you must arrange for your marriage officer before you purchase your non-resident marriage license in the Cayman Islands as you will need to present a letter from the marriage officer at the time of application. In order to arrange for the marriage officer you can contact the Office of the Deputy Chief Secretary who will have a list of marriage officers that you can choose who you want to marry you from. You can also get the application for the non-resident marriage license from them as well. Their address and phone number are: Office of the Deputy Chief Secretary, Government Administration Building, 3rd Floor George Town, Grand Cayman, B.W.I., Phone: 345.949.7900 or 345.914.2222.

When you apply for the non-resident marriage license you will be required to provide particular documents in order to be married legally in the Cayman Islands. You will need to provide either valid passports or original or certified copies of your birth certificates in order prove citizenship. One thing to keep in mind is that photocopies of birth certificates will not be accepted, they must be either originals or certified to be legal. You will also need to provide photo identification for verification purposes as well. If you are under the age of 18 you will need permission from your parents or guardian to marry as 18 is the legal age to get married in the Cayman Islands.

If this is your second marriage then you will also need to provide original or certified copies of either a divorce or death certificate whichever applies. Like with the birth certificates, photocopies will not be accepted.

Finally, you will need to prove entry into the Cayman Islands with a Cayman Islands International Immigration Department pink slip. Those who fly into the Cayman Islands receive this piece of paper automatically from Immigration. If you come to the Cayman Islands from a cruise ship then you can present your boarding pass as proof that you are there legally. Without one of these you could find yourself with a problem as they are the only ways to prove you are legally on the Islands, so don't forget them!

In the Cayman Islands you must also have two people to witness your marriage. If you don't know two people who can stand as witnesses for you at your marriage, then you can ask the Manager Officer to help you arrange for two witnesses.
