Tips for Choosing the Right Music for Your Wedding
There are many important decisions to be made when it comes to planning your wedding, and choosing the right music ranks right up there at the top of the list. The music you choose should reflect who you and your beloved are together and should have meaning for you and your guests.
Here are some tips to help you pick the music that is best for your special day.
- As mentioned before choose music that reflects who you and your beloved are to each other. If you both love classical music and listen to it often together then by all means choose classical pieces for your wedding. It will make memories for you and your guests.
- If you chose not to really have a theme for your wedding, then don't feel boxed in by traditional music choices. Feel free to choose pop or even country songs that you both like and that you both feel reflects your relationship.
- Pick music that you and your guests will dance to. If you pick music that no one either knows how to dance to, or doesn't want to dance to then this will reflect on your special day. You don't want your guests to remember your wedding as the one where something like say Rap music was played and nobody wanted to dance to it. Don't be afraid to ask your wedding guests before the wedding what kind of music they would like to hear and would like to dance to. That way you can have some of what you like if it is different and some of what your guests will like that way everyone is happy!
- If you have a wedding theme, try and do your best to choose music that matches it. It doesn't have to be a perfect match, but for example let's say you choose a fairytale wedding theme, then you might choose at least some slow and romantic songs such as ones by Phil Collins, Richard Marx, or even Nat King Cole or Natalie Cole to name a few.
- One thing to keep in mind when choosing the music for during your wedding ceremony is whether or not you are having a religious ceremony. If you are then you may be limited when it comes to the music you can choose. Generally speaking when you are being married in a religious ceremony it is expected that you will choose religious music for your ceremony. Also some churches will not allow any secular music to be played because they consider a wedding to be a type of worship service. This is something that will need to be worked out with your priest or minister.
- You will need to be aware of the length of your wedding ceremony because this can determine the music you will play. If your ceremony is a long one then you may need more than one song so be prepared to have a selection of up to four songs that can be sung or played during the ceremony itself.
- You may want to consider having an instrument other than the piano or organ played at your wedding. For example many people find harp music very beautiful and soothing, and most songs can be adapted for any instrument. This is something you can keep in mind, particularly if one or both of you have a favorite instrument.
Keeping all of these tips in mind will help you to choose the best music for your wedding. There is no reason that there should be any limitations on the type of music you choose or the songs you choose. Remember this is the day you will remember for the rest of your life so select your music accordingly.
