Owensboro is the third-largest city in the U.S. state of Kentucky and the county seat of Daviess County. It is located on U.S. Route 60 about 32 miles southeast of Evansville, Indiana and is the principal city of the Owensboro, Kentucky Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 54,067 at the 2000 census. The city was named after Colonel Abraham Owen. Owensboro is the second-largest city in the Tri-State of Illinois, Indiana, and Kentucky after Evansville, Indiana.

Marriage License Requirements

Obtaining a marriage license is an important step in making your marriage legal. Follow these guidelines on how to obtain a marriage license if you plan to wed in Kentucky.

  • Step1

Apply for the marriage license in person at any county courthouse. Both bride and groom must be present. Residency in Kentucky is not required.

  • Step2

Present proof of age and identity. A driver's license, military identification card or passport are acceptable forms of identification for this purpose.

  • Step3

Fill out the application and sign it in the presence of the county clerk. Applicants may also be asked to provide Social Security numbers, dates of birth for both parties, previous marriage information and names and birthplaces of applicants' parents.

  • Step4

Pay the license fee and head to the altar. There is no waiting period and licenses are valid for 30 days.

  • Step5

If either applicant has been married previously, bring the certified document that ended his or her last marriage, such as a divorce decree, annulment paper or death certificate.

Henderson, to the west, is the home of Ellis Park, a thoroughbred horse track that races in the summer months.

To the south are two towns that gave birth to musicians. Rosine is the birthplace of Bill Monroe, the father of Bluegrass music. Central City is the birthplace of Phil and Don Everly (the Everly Brothers), famous for their hits "Bye, Bye Love" and "Wake Up Little Susie".
