Clearwater is a city located in Pinellas County, Florida, USA, nearly due west of Tampa and northwest of St. Petersburg. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 108,787; however, according to the 2005 U.S. Census Bureau's estimates, the city's population fell slightly to 108,687. It is the county seat of Pinellas County. Clearwater is the smallest of the three principal cities in the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater metropolitan area, most commonly referred to as the Tampa Bay Area. The four-county area is home to roughly 2.7 million residents, making it the second largest metropolitan statistical area (MSA) in the state, and the third largest in the Southeastern United States.

Perhaps most easily recognized as the headquarters city of the Church of Scientology, Clearwater also has miles of beautiful beaches and close proximity to other cities in the Tampa Bay area.

Marriage License Requirements

1. No expiration date (suggest you use the license within one month of issuance).

2. No waiting period.

3. Both parties need to be present to fill out the Marriage License Affidavit. (If one party cannot appear you need to contact the office at 476-5615 for instructions).

4. Age 17 and younger need to have a parent present to give consent.

5. Age 15 and younger need to have a court order.

6. Both parties need to bring picture identification (driver’s license) for verification of age.

7. Social security numbers are a requirement for applying for a marriage license.

  • The requirement that an applicant provide a social security number shall apply only to applicants who have been assigned a social security number.
  • An applicant who has not been assigned a social security number shall
    • Present written verification from the social security administration that the applicant has not been assigned a social security number; and
    • Submit a birth certificate, passport, or other documentary evidence issued by an entity other than a state or the United States; and
    • Submit such proof as the Department of Health and Welfare may require that the applicant is lawfully present in the United States.

  • Suncoast Beach Trolley For a nominal fee you can explore all of the unique beach communities from Clearwater Beach to Pass-A-Grille. Trolley does not stop in Kenneth City, Belleair Beach and Belleair Shore. The Suncoast Beach Trolley currently runs every 20 - 30 minutes from 5:05 a.m. to 10:10 p.m., Monday through Sunday, including holidays, with service until midnight on Friday and Saturday. Look for special trolley bus stop signs located frequently along the route. In addition to the route along the beaches, connector routes run between the coast and downtown Saint Petersburg. All Trolleys are wheelchair accessible, and they have bike racks as well.
